Pruning young fruit trees lays the foundation for the tree’s entire development. Through the careful selection and training of the main branches, a sturdy, well-lit crown with balanced growth is created. Correcting any growth faults at an early stage reduces the need for maintenance later on and promotes health, stability and yield.

Pruning young trees
Pruning mature fruit trees
Even mature fruit trees can often be preserved for many more years. By gradually removing over-mature parts of the crown, encouraging the growth of young fruiting wood and improving light conditions, the tree’s vitality is enhanced. Rejuvenation pruning helps to extend the lifespan of valuable mature trees and preserve their ecological and cultural-historical significance.
Restorative pruning
Many fruit trees have been neglected for years or have been thrown out of balance by inappropriate pruning practices. Careful restorative pruning corrects these problems, improves the crown structure and stabilises the tree’s structural integrity. The aim is to achieve a healthy tree with balanced growth, good light penetration and, in the long term, reduced maintenance requirements.
Orchard, Agroforestry Planning & Stand Care
I accompany orchard and agroforestry projects from the initial idea right through to long-term maintenance. This includes site analyses, variety selection, planting plans, maintenance planning and the development of sustainable management strategies. In addition, I provide support with the maintenance and further development of existing orchard meadows and larger wooded areas. The aim is to promote healthy trees, high biodiversity and resilient landscape systems with long-term ecological and economic benefits.

When is the right time?
Winter pruning
Nov – Apr
Takes place during the dormant season. Winter pruning encourages new shoots in spring, stimulates shoot growth and is particularly suitable for shaping the crown of young fruit trees.
Summer pruning
May – Sep
Takes place during the growing season. Summer pruning slows down growth, improves light penetration within the crown, enhances fruit quality and supports the ripening of the fruit.
